Description
Enter a spiegeltent, an antique creation named Le Palais Nostalgique. Handcrafted in Belgium in the 1920s and originally used for a wine-tasting pavilion and traveling dance hall, it first appeared on the San Francisco waterfront in 2000. As you walk past the spiegeltent, between the Bay Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf, don't let its plain exterior fool you.
Upon entering this white tent with its peaked roof, you'll enter another world - a place that resembles nineteenth century Paris. Blood-red velvet curtains, stained glass and mirrors surround a collection of dining tables.
Seating is in the general seating area and is arranged by the Maitre d' who assigns your seats the night you attend. Upon arrival, go directly to the Maitre d’s desk, where you will be given a table assignment for your entire party. In some cases, you and your party may be seated with others.
Watch as servers in black fishnet stockings, short ruffled red skirts and cinched bodices take your orders. Choose from a selection of entrees.

Menu is subject to change. Although beverages are extra, Teatro ZinZanni offers an extensive menu of wine, spirits and liqueurs. You may bring in your own wine with a corkage fee of $25.00 for 750-ml bottles and $50.00 for magnums (no outside wine permitted for groups 20 or more).
As you choose a delectable cocktail from the menu, watch for a cleaning lady, who will wander through the dining room, sweeping as she goes, or a waiter, who may spill some water and rearrange a dozen guests' seating, trying to make it right.
Listen as the crowd quiets. La Contessa arrives, welcoming us to her "jewel box of dreams." Joan Baez brings the Contessa to life, infusing her character with warmth and a voice that fills the room to bursting.
What comes next is perhaps best described as a performance with a meal served during the intermissions. Each course is introduced by the chef, who shouts "If music be the food of love, play on!"
You'll feel as if the entire tent has left the waterfront on a fantastic journey. You'll laugh. You'll dine. You'll dance while jugglers, acrobats and magicians perform. The chef continues to appear before each course. And things are not always what they seem.
Even after the performance has ended, and you've reluctantly returned to the real world outside, the music will still play on in your mind - "If music be the food of love, play on!"
